Party Party Party Time
Chapter 1: Daisy’s Party
In Chapter one, the first party commences. It’s at the Buchanan house. It was small but the main people we met are Tom Buchanan, Daisy Buchanan, and Jordan Baker. The house is a cheerful red-and-white Georgian Colonial mansion, overlooking the bay. Daisy is Nick's cousin once removed. Tom is her husband that Nick knew a little bit from college. Lastly, there is Jordan baker, she is a professional golfer, has no man, nor children. She is very independent and would like to stay that way. During the evening it was an uneventful time at first, talking about what’s been happening in their lives, where they lived and currently living, other people, and other little things. Only things start to escalate when the phone rings during dinner. Later on the reader is informed that it is Tom’s new woman in New York. Daisy and Jordan both know about this and yet Daisy stays with Tom most likely because of money and to support her child.
Chapter 2: Myrtle’s Party
Chapter 2, Nick, Tom and Mrs.I Wilson, or Myrtle, were traveling to New York to her apartment where the party would be held. The apartment was on the top floor. According to Nick, the apartment had a small living room, small dining-room, a small bedroom, and a bath. In the living room was a lot of furniture too big for the room itself. As for the people there are the Wilsons, Nick, Tom, and the new characters, Myrtle’s sister, Catherine and the McKees. The McKee’s live a few floors down. After sitting down and chatting about each other and having drinks, Some info is shared about Tom and Daisy’s relationship. The reason Tom and Daisy won’t divorce is because she is Catholic and doesn’t believe in divorces. However Nick knows this is false, so she is putting up a lie so she can still be with Tom even though she is miserable with him. We even learn that Tom is abusive to Myrtle and not just Daisy. He broke her nose after she chanted Daisy’s name after Tom told her not to say Daisy’s name. As for Myrtle, herself, she changes clothes for the third time today and along with that change, Nick notices a difference in how she acts. She's more violent when it comes to any of her actions like laughing, gestures, and assertions. She also shoots down a comment from Mrs. McKee about her dress. Myrtle called it an old thing that she wears when she doesn’t care what she looks like. From how she responds to people, it seems that she takes a lot of pride in herself and thinks she’s above everyone else. As for the McKee's, they were on the polite side of the guests. Mrs. McKee gave a compliment to Myrtle and also offered to give her a dress she was getting rid of. As for Mr.Mckee, we don’t learn a lot from him.
Chapter 3: Gatsby’s Party
` For chapter 3, the setting takes place at the Gatsby house, the house next door to Nick’s. Nick talks about how his house is always filled with music, his current party, he had an orchestra come and play, and enough lights to turn his garden into a Christmas tree. On many tables were many types of food, ranging from many meats to salads. Also a bar was set up to hold a variety of liquors. As for the crowd and characters, it felt like the whole town. The people that came either were invited by Gatsby himself, someone who knew Gatsby or his parties, or someone that just came. Some will meet Gatsby and some come and go without seeing him. There were a variety of people there as well. During the party Nick meets up with Jordan and sticks with her since he felt compelled to stay by her since he already knew her and was comfortable with her. The two of them and some others talk about Gatsby and the idea that he had killed a man arose. Later on they meet a guy in the library who was drunk and thought that going there would help sober him up. But the two didn’t stay long with him. They left and later down the road Nick was face to face with Mr. Gatsby. He didn’t realize it until Gatsby told Nick himself. Their talk didn’t last long since Gatsby was being summoned to the phone. That’s when Nick got a bit more curious from him. As some time passed Gatsby had summoned Jordan. However it was towards the end of the party when they were done talking. By this time drunk women were getting mad at their husbands and escorts for telling them they needed to go.
Which Party?
Out of all the parties, I would definitely go to Gatsby’s Party. He’s got music, aesthetic, food, and entertainment, meaning other people. The other’s I would have been too uncomfortable to be in and would try to leave. At this party, it’s a big gathering with a little bit of everything for everyone. Lastly, if I did want to leave I could since there wouldn’t be anyone close or drunk to prevent me from leaving. Unlike if I was at a closer smaller party then I would be asked to stay and not go.
